PRACTICE
Support from partner companies
If you are a dual student and choose a permanent partner company, your practice partner will pay part or all of your tuition fees. In addition, companies often offer you other great benefits such as attractive remuneration, flexible working hours, home office options, fresh fruit and drinks every day and regular team events. If you want to study part-time, then your motto is: It doesn’t hurt to ask! Simply ask your employer for financial support, because it pays off for them too. You can apply the knowledge from your studies directly to your day-to-day work!Self-financing through practical phase fees, part-time jobs and salaries
It’s up to the student! If you want to remain flexible during your dual study program and gain experience in different companies, you can cover part of your study costs with your work experience pay. Mini-jobs up to 450 euros are also a great option, as you don’t have to pay taxes or social security contributions. As a part-time student, you work full-time and finance your study costs easily and carefree through your monthly salary.Scholarships
FHDW Scholarship
The FHDW scholarship supports talented and committed students. We not only cover half of your tuition and examination fees, but also support your personal development and career planning. Details about the FHDW scholarship and testimonials from our scholarship holders can be found here.
Further scholarships
Do you already have an apprenticeship and have been in the job for at least two years? This is encouraged! And with an advancement scholarship from the Federal Ministry of Education and Research. If you are under 25 years old, you can also apply for the further education scholarship.
Student loans & funds
KfW student loan
The state-owned KfW banking group offers you a low-interest loan that can also be combined with BAföG or an education loan. You can decide the monthly payment of between 100 and 650 euros yourself and adjust it each semester. By the way: Proof of your parents’ income and assets is not required here. Sounds good? Then take a look at the KfW website.Education fund
Education funds finance your studies without you having to worry about repayments during your studies. Repayment only begins once you have successfully started your job, depending on your income. You can find out how to do this at bildungsfonds.deStudent loans
Did you forget to take care of a financing concept at the beginning of your studies? No problem! The Federal Government’s education loan program offers you the opportunity to obtain a low-interest, flexible loan even in higher semesters. You can finance up to 15,000 euros for a Bachelor’s degree. For Master’s students, the maximum amount is 25,000 euros. So, what are you waiting for? Check with the Federal Office of Administration!
State funding
BAföG
BAföG enables many students to pursue their dream degree. The maximum rate for this state subsidy is currently EUR 861 per month. Whether and how much funding you receive depends on your circumstances. As we all know, the best comes at the end: you only have to pay back half of the amount and without interest! You can find more information on the Bafög page.Child benefit
Did you know? You are entitled to child benefit up to the age of 25. The rate is between 219 euros and 250 euros per month. Your parents apply for child benefit. You can have a part-time job despite child benefit as long as your average weekly working hours do not exceed 20 hours.Tax deductibility
First degree
This is your first degree course and you haven’t completed any training yet? Then your study costs are eligible as special expenses up to max. 6000 euros per year are deductible. They are deducted from your taxed income and thus reduce your tax burden. The system then calculates whether you are entitled to a refund. But be careful: your gross income must be above the tax-free allowance of 10,908 euros.
Second degree
Do you already have your apprenticeship or Bachelor’s degree under your belt? Perfect, because your study costs are deducted from your taxed income if you include them as income-related expenses in your tax return. This reduces your tax burden and your tax refund is calculated. Watch out: Here too, your gross income must be above the tax-free allowance of 10,908 euros.
Did you already know?
Of course, when it comes to tax returns, everyone wants to throw in the towel. But did you know that you can recoup up to 42 percent of your tuition costs?
