Headquarters of HÄVG Rechenzentrum GmbH in Cologne

Through close cooperation with the parent company HÄVG Hausärztliche Vertragsgemeinschaft AG as well as the German General Practitioners’ Association and its regional associations, the company is constantly establishing and expanding its market share in this young and innovative business field. Since 2016, the HÄVG data center and the FHDW have been successfully cooperating in the Bachelor’s degree program Business Informatics, specializing in Software Engineering.

The dual study program with the HÄVG computer center

During the practical phases of the dual study program, students work on innovative projects and can directly apply the knowledge they have acquired. The focus here is on software development and testing, among other things. Initially, students learn the basics of programming through varied and exciting tasks and exercises, thereby deepening their knowledge. Even in this phase, they apply the principles of “clean code development”.

The HÄVG computer center offers you the opportunity to get to know the entire breadth of your diverse business area through short internships in the various specialist departments. Over time, you will carry out smaller projects independently, which can then be transferred to the company. The following projects, for example, have been implemented within this framework:

  • Development of a program for evaluating, graphically processing and sending log files
  • Creation and presentation of a concept for a software manufacturer
  • Analysis of the test coverage of an application with subsequent discussion of the results with the developers
  • Implementation of a new filter to remove defined data records from the database – with 100% test coverage.

You will also adapt and expand existing applications. Thanks to the broad portfolio, you will work with complex applications, web services, databases and mass data processing. Throughout your training, you will be supervised by a mentor who will be your permanent contact person throughout the dual study program.

It is important to the HÄVG Rechenzentrum that you concentrate fully on your studies. That’s why it pays the university tuition fees and your salary. Once you have successfully completed your studies, the company looks forward to keeping you on as a permanent member of the team.
