My name is Sina and I have been studying International Business at the FHDW in Bielefeld since October 2019. I decided to study with different partner companies and took the opportunity to get to know a company abroad during the practical phase.

After the Erasmus+ call for applications, I applied directly to the FHDW International Office. However, due to the corona pandemic, a stay abroad was not on the cards for the time being. I then decided to take advantage of the Erasmus+ scholarship and complete the practical phase of the 5th semester abroad. The International Office drew my attention to the Erasmus job portal. I then applied for the right position and quickly received feedback from the company. The internship at Zisser Textile Design in Stockholm could begin!

I left Düsseldorf for Stockholm straight after the exams. I found my accommodation via Airbnb. However, there are other websites, Facebook groups and housing agencies that can help you find accommodation.

Zisser Textile Design is a design studio for prints in the textile and fashion industry. During my internship, I worked in the digital marketing department and was responsible for managing the social media channels, email marketing and communication with customers and brands. The team was very international – with interns from Germany, Denmark and Spain. The other interns worked in the design department. We got on well straight away and working together as a team was a lot of fun. After work or at the weekends, we explored the city together.

The studio was about half an hour by metro from the city center. Public transportation includes the train, metro, streetcar, bus and ferries. Everything in and around Stockholm is therefore easy to reach.

Stockholm offers a wide range of leisure and cultural activities. There are numerous museums for art, history, photography and much more. But I also enjoyed simply strolling through the city, looking at the many different stores, galleries and interior design stores and enjoying the impressions of the architecture. Many cafés, restaurants and bars invite you to linger in the different parts of the city. You should especially try the Swedish cinnamon buns in a café. I also tried traditional Swedish cuisine with my family in a restaurant in the old town.

Stockholm is also known as the “Venice of the North”. The city stretches across several islands, giving the individual districts their own character. It is particularly beautiful that the city combines architecture, water and nature.

Friends and family visited me during my time in Stockholm. We explored the city together and I showed them the most beautiful places in the city. It was very impressive to experience Stockholm during Christmas and New Year’s Eve. In addition to an ice rink, the city shone with numerous lights, Christmas decorations and small Christmas markets.

Conclusion

During my time in Stockholm, I was able to gain many new experiences, make new friends and get to know the Scandinavian lifestyle. A normal life was possible in Sweden despite the coronavirus pandemic. All in all, I had an unforgettable time that I will remember for a long time to come. I would recommend everyone to take the opportunity to do an internship abroad.

Would you also like to go abroad and experience something?
